The library will be closed Tuesday December, 24th and Wednesday, December 25th. Normal operating hours will resume Thursday, December 26th.

Head of Youth Services

The Prospect Heights Public Library District seeks an intelligent and energetic person to be our next Head of Youth Services. This position is responsible for administering the Youth Services Department (preschool through 12th grade) and for developing appropriate services for young people and their parents. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to foster creativity in others and possess a positive, team oriented outlook.

In this role, you will lead a department of seven outstanding employees while working in a newly renovated Library and Youth Service Department. You will be responsible for maintaining the outstanding and collaborative relationships the Library has built with schools, park district, daycares, and other community organizations which serve youth.  You will work with the Executive Director in crafting the budget for the Department and oversee a robust programming schedule that surpasses pre-COVID metrics for programs offered and attendance.  You will collaborate with all Library departments to enhance Library services and implement Library-wide projects – particularly our upcoming strategic plan.   As a member of a dedicated Management Team, you will advise the Director on the long-term needs, improvements, and innovations in services for youth.  

Job Requirements
The position requires an MLS from an accredited ALA program and 3-4 years of progressively responsible experience working directly with children.  Experience negotiating, working with vendors and contractors.  Excellent oral and written communication skills and practical knowledge of the MS Office suite are also required.

Salary: Full time, 37.5 hours/week, including nights and weekends as needed. $72,000 with excellent benefits. As a full-time staff member you’ll be eligible for our complete benefits package, including medical (BCBS), dental and vision insurance, IMRF, paid sick time and vacation pay. Our library also offers an optional 457 retirement savings plan.
