3D Printing Procedure
Purpose

The Prospect Heights Public Library provides access to new technology, like the MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D printer.

This is a staff mediated service and is available on a first come, first served basis.

Procedures

The Prospect Heights Public Library reserves the rights to refuse production of any content at any time at the discretion of Library Staff. Some examples of content that will not be printed include, but are not limited to:

  1. Content that could be unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-beings of others.

  2. Content that is obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment

  3. Content that may infringe upon the intellectual property rights of a third party.

Any 3D drafting software may be used to create a design as long as the file can be saved in .stl file format.

Digital designs are also available from various file-sharing databases such as Thingiverse.com.

Patrons will submit files they wish to print by using the web form on the library’s webpage www.phpl.info.

If there is high demand, the Library will print on a first come, first served basis and may only schedule one print per day per person.

Library staff will make an educated guess about the length of time a job may take upon receiving the request form.

Patrons will be notified that their request was received and an estimated completion time.

Patrons will also receive notification when the print job is completed.
