Event Details
The City of Chicago has hosted more presidential nominating conventions than any other city. They were memorable, colorful affairs. It was here in the Windy City where Abraham Lincoln’s supporters packed the old “Wigwam” and stampeded the nomination of the “Springfield Rail Splitter” on the eve of the Civil War. Inside the “smoke-filled room” of the Blackstone Hotel, Republican party bosses brokered a deal sending the proverbial dark horse Warren G. Harding to the top of the ticket and the presidency. Remember the 1968 Convention riot outside the Hilton Hotel? With a historian’s trained eye, author Rich Lindberg covers them all in this lively and informative talk.
Rich will be presenting in the library, please join us in the library or on Zoom.
