This is a close-up look at the history of baseball’s most notorious scandal; the “fixing” of the 1919 World Series by eight members of the Chicago White Sox. Rich, who has authored four books about the White Sox, examines the long-term impact of the affair on the fortunes of the franchise for the following three decades after 1919, and how the South Side team relinquished its status as Chicago’s most popular team to the Cubs as one of the consequences. The Sox position as the second team in the second city has much to do with the fallout of the 1919 scandal. PowerPoint Presentation
